Hot on the heels of Roden’s 1/32 scale Nieuport 28 model comes a reference book to match. Theodore Hamady’s The Nieuport 28: America’s First Fighter examines the service history of the biplane fighter in which many American pilots gained their initial combat experience over France in World War I.
After describing the creation of the American Expeditionary Force air service, Hamady details the aircraft’s combat service as well as postwar military and civilian use. Photos and illustrations abound; especially useful is a photo essay of a Nieuport restoration at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. Among the appendices is a section of colors and markings featuring numerous color profiles, paint charts, and squadron insignia.
